Binucot Beach | Things to do in Ferrol-Romblon
|Address:||Brgy. Bunsoran,, Ferrol, Romblon|
Looc residents, husband and wife Jonathan and Virna Gaytano, wanted a serene place where they can pray and meditate. In 2015, just before Jonathan's 40th birthday, he built the Grotto de Banloc as a way of giving thanks for his life. The six-hectare site was eventually opened to the public in 2016 on Virna's birthday. Today, it is a popular destination, serving not only as a place for worship, but also a serene getaway. With its beautiful landscaped gardens and water fountains, it is a perfect spot to hold picnics, host team building activities, or commune with nature. Their recently-opened Honesty Store is now on operation, attracting locals and tourists alike. Akin to Batanes' popular Honesty Coffee Shop, it is not manned by a storekeeper nor is it equipped with a CCTV camera. Shoppers can pick the item they want and leave their exact payment. Proceeds from the store go to the maintenance of the grotto.
The Rising Pili is a family-run business that is marketing one of the Philippines' most famous nuts, the pili. The organically grown nuts are shipped over to Tablas Island from farms in the Bicol region where they are quality checked and packaged ready for export to countries in Europe, and the Middle East. Marketed under the brand, The Cracking Monkey, the pili nuts are sold with their shell on to harness their maximum benefits. Their factory employs local staff from Tablas, which greatly helps the development of the island towards being eco-friendly. As part of their commitment to reducing waste, The Rising Pili does not use any plastic. Instead, they package their all-natural product onsite in reusable cotton sacks. Those who want to learn more about pili nuts may book a tour with their factory, free of charge.
Follow the signs out of town to Bagulayag and enjoy strolling along the path through the mangroves, passing fishmen's homes. At the end of the path is Bagulayag Rock. The best time to visit is during December, when the butanding (whale shark) are migrating. Adding to the rugged charm of the place is the abandoned coastal road project, which has unfinished concrete walls.
